Also, don&#8217;t try to use the listed Japanese phrases. They are not correct translations\u2014not even close. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In one day, that post shot up to my most viewed post so far on this blog site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are the actual approximate translations of the phrases (These are meant in the spirit of April Fool&#8217;s Day\u2014telling jokes\u2014I tried to pick some things that might be funny when you mean to say one thing and actually say another, or are purposely being told to say the wrong thing. One way or another, this has happened to all of us trying to use another language in another culture. Yes, I have also been told to say the wrong thing by people as a joke that they were making on each other. These are not intended in any way to be disrespectful or insensitive): <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The meeting is in one hour.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u672c\u65e5\u306e\u4f1a\u8b70\u306f\u3059\u3079\u3066\u30ad\u30e3\u30f3\u30bb\u30eb\u3055\u308c\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Honjitsu no kaigi wa subete kyanseru sa remashita.<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8220;All of today&#8217;s meetings have been canceled.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You have a nice place.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u5bb6\u306b\u4e0a\u9678\u3057\u305f\u5de8\u5927\u306a\u30cb\u30ef\u30c8\u30ea\u306e\u3088\u3046\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Ie ni j\u014driku shita kyodaina niwatori no y\u014ddesu.<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8220;It&#8217;s like a giant chicken landed on your house.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How can I get transportation to the store?\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u4eca\u3055\u3063\u304d\u3001\u3042\u306a\u305f\u306e\u8eca\u306b\u3076\u3064\u304b\u3063\u3066\u3044\u3063\u305f\u4eba\u304c\u3044\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Ima sakki, anata no kuruma ni butsukatte itta hito ga imashita.<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8220;Just now, someone ran into your car.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You need to rest.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u732b\u306e\u624b\u3092\u501f\u308a\u308b\u5fc5\u8981\u306f\u3042\u308a\u307e\u305b\u3093\u3002\u305d\u308c\u306f\u7c21\u5358\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Neko no te o kariru hitsuy\u014d wa arimasen. Sore wa kantandesu.<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8220;You don&#8217;t have to borrow a cat&#8217;s paw. It&#8217;s easy.&#8221; (I tried to work in a need to &#8220;borrow a cat&#8217;s paw&#8221;, which is a Japanese idiom for being very busy. I asked a Japanese native speaker about this saying. When I was in Okinawa, I tried to use a few Okinawan phrases, and it was much appreciated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Actually, little joke sayings have helped me learn languages. When I was trying to learn German, I made up several silly phrases that often rhymed, or almost rhymed, and were easier to remember.
